Correct installation of the Smart Bell
What you should pay special attention to is the flue and the casing. Below you can read some tips about this:
The flue:
The outer pipe must have a seamless connection with the existing flue. If there is a small gap between them, the heat will escape through the old flue. The old flue will then always continue to pull, so that it will draw the heat from the chimney breast.
The conversion:
The wall behind can also absorb the heat. It is therefore important that the heat produced in the conversion can only leave the conversion via the grids. This makes it important that the wall behind is provided with an insulating plate (for example superisol). Do not use materials where binders have been used. These binders can evaporate and give off an unpleasant odor. At the height of the top grids, a ceiling must also be made of the same plate. This ensures that the heat will leave the conversion directly via the grids.
When you install the Smart Bell, you have one of the following three situations:
In situation 1, the appliance is placed in an existing chimney. You must connect 2 flexible liners to the device (a). You must pull the 2 flexible liners through the existing chimney. Around the outer flex, you must create an airtight closing system relative to the existing chimney (b). On top of the 2 flexible liners you have to attach the concentric roof duct to ensure that the air supply (incoming and outgoing) remains separate. (c) In other words, you must create a balanced flue system.
In the second situation, we use 2 flexible liners that are connected to the appliance (a). The center flexible liner that exhausts the flue gas must be pulled all the way to the top of the chimney (b). The 150 mm flexible liner passes through the existing chimney and must be installed airtight (c). From here, the existing chimney will work in the same way as the outer flexible liner (d). On top of this situation, you must end again with the concentric flue gas outlet (e). In this situation, the yield can / will be reduced.
The third option is similar to the previous situations. You can use 1 or 2 flexible liners. The big difference is that you have to insulate the device. With large and massive chimneys it is wise to apply some extra insulation around the fire (Super-isol or Skamol) (a). Or ceramic blanket and no materials with binders. These binders can evaporate and give off an unpleasant odor.
In addition, you must ensure that the sealed part of the existing chimney is 100% airtight (b).
